    Job Description

    Groundman – Transmission – Florida – 124046
    This is the first or entry craft level of the Line progression hierarchy. A Groundman will assist a higher level line worker in safe activities associated with line construction and maintenance. Incumbents are expected to develop appropriate skills to progress to step 3, and approval to progress to Lineman Apprentice. Minimum travel required.
    Groundman performs the following with Direct Oversight:
    • Clearly understand the importance of company safe work practices and safety rules
    • Basic understanding of the Human Performance Tools and requirements
    • Basic understanding of the isolation of line equipment and grounding practices
    • Demonstrates good verbal and written communications skills
    • Basic understanding of electrical drawings (line equipment schematics and power system drawings)
    • Basic electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills
    • Develops the ability to think methodically and arrange activities in logical order
    • Exposure to Transmission and Distribution system switching activities
    • Ability to sit for 2-3 hours; may be driving a truck or sitting on a transmission class equipment
    • Ability to move frequently to unload equipment and to install/maintain/repair equipment
    • Ability to frequently climb (at 3rd Step)
    • Ability to frequently and repetitively bend/stoop/squat
    • Ability to distinguish colors

    • Demonstrated ability to pass panel review by meeting or exceeding requirements for step progression
    Minimum Requirements:

    • Must have a valid State Driver’s License and the ability to obtain a CDL Class A Driver’s License with tractor/trailer and tank vehicle endorsements
    • Ability to pass any required back ground check for NERC/CIP/Nuclear compliance
    • Must pass appropriate level of Duke aptitude test
    • Ability to lift and carry 75 lbs
    • High School diploma or equivalent
    • Ability to work in a diverse environment with individuals from various socio-economic and cultural backgrounds
    • Basic written and oral communication skills
    • Must be capable of working on elevated work surfaces
    • Must be available for minimum travel
